Southern Saaz
The Australian hop variety Southern Saaz is a seedless aroma type bred from Czech Saaz by Hop Products Australia at their Bushy Park Breeding Garden. Southern Saaz is characterised by herbal, spicy, resinous notes.
Brewers note that this Tasmanian bred Saaz variety is very close in character to the Czech Saaz parent.
Note: Southern Saaz has a Farnesene level of 23% of total oil, a typical characteristic of Czech Saaz.
Origin
Southern Saaz was bred via open pollination of highly regarded Czech Saaz 1997. Southern Saaz has retained the high Farnesene level which characterises it’s mother, Czech Saaz.
