Talking hop at the Australian Craft Beer Industry Association.

Our MD Tim Lord spoke about late and dry hopping at the Australian Craft Beer Industry Association conference in Melbourne this week, from common late and dry hopping techniques and equipment to pellets vs. flowers and the importance of understanding and calculating essential oil addition to beer.

Tim’s main point in the presentation was to encourage brewers to consider total oil content in their hops (which varies from variety to variety and from season to season) and use this information to assist in calculating appropriate addition rates to help produce consistent hop driven flavour and aroma in their brews.

It was also great to see so many familiar faces, and new ones too – and there has already been lots of hop talk well supported by some fine craft brews.

Its a great time to be in Melbourne with the CBIA conference coinciding with “Good Beer Week”, the” Australian International Beer Awards” and the “Great Australian Beer Spectapular” bringing together like minded beer orientated people – cheers!
