The growing conditions for hops are pretty different ‘Down Under’. There are a few exceptions (such as Cascade, Willamette and Cluster), but generally hop cultivars (varieties) developed overseas aren’t commercially viable when they’re grown in Australia.

By contrast, hop cultivars bred in Australia – such as Galaxy™, Ella™, Summer™, Topaz™ and Pride of Ringwood – are amongst the most productive in the world.

We’re constantly investing in research to find new cultivars that can be grown, harvested and processed in Australia and produce top quality hops.

Research associated with our hop breeding program makes contributions to understanding the inheritance, molecular genetics, physiology and chemistry of important hop traits.

If that all sounds a bit technical, all you need to know is that we’re dedicated to finding new ways of bringing unique flavours to quality beers in Australia and around the world.
